Dryer Vent Installation

Why Are Dryer Vents So Important?

Dryer vents are extremely important for proper ventilation of exhaust. The exhaust is sent out of the home via a flexible tube. These tubes can be rigid or semi-rigid. Dryer vents are crucial for ensuring fires do not occur. Dryers operate by tumbling wet clothes with warm air. As the clothes rotate with the heated air, moisture begins to evaporate. The dryer picks up the moisture and send its out of the unit.

Every dryer has a metal vent located on the back of the unit. This vent is responsible for expelling water-laden air. This air should not be blown into your home, instead it must be taken outside. This is done through an exhaust tube. One end of this tube is attached to the back of your dryer and the other end is attached to a hole on the outside of your home. This process and set up is what makes a dryer work efficiently.

Different Types of Dryer Ducts

Aluminum Foil Duct

Aluminum foil ducts are typically the most commonly seen dryer duct installed in homes. These types of dryer ducts are inexpensive and very easy to find as they are used so frequently. This type of vent is classified as transition duct. Aluminum foil ducts are used for outside of wall assemblies. They can not be used within wall assemblies.

Semi-Rigid Metal Duct

Semi-rigid metal ducts resemble similar features to an aluminum foil duct. The metal in the semi-rigid duct is slightly different as it is less likely to crush. The inside of the semi-rigid metal duct is smooth which allow debris and lint to move more freely. This type of vent is a transition duct. Semi-rigid metal ducts are used for outside of wall assemblies. They can not be used within wall assemblies.

Slim Ducts/ Periscope

Slim ducts are constructed out of tough metal. This type of vent is a transition duct. Slim ducts are used for outside of the wall assemblies. They can not be used within wall assemblies.

Rigid Metal Ducts

Rigid metal ducts have smooth interiors with allows air and lint to flow freely. Rigid metal ducts are the only ducts that can be installed within the wall.

Many dryer vent technicians from other providers do not have enough experience installing dryer vents. Another common reason for dryer vent rerouting is construction and remodeling.
